How Much Clearance Do I Need Between My Truck and Fifth Wheel Trailer

Question:

I have 5 1/4 inches between the fifth wheel and the top of my tonneau cover rails. Do I need to set the hitch up another notch or should this be ok?

Ideally you will want at least 6 inches between the highest point of your truck bed walls, in your case the tonneau cover rails, and the bottom of your fifth wheel trailer. At 5-1/4 inches you're pretty close and may not have an issue. If you're able to raise it without throwing off the entire rig setup then it would be better. However, if raising your hitch causes any other issues you can keep it where it is but you will want to be careful when going over bumps and uneven ground to avoid any contact.
