Recommended Hitch-Mounted Bike Carrier For 2005 Toyota Camry With Curt Class ll Trailer Hitch

Question:

Just got the Curt hitch from you guys for my 2005 4 door Camry. Now I need a good bike hitch carrier that does not touch the frame when bikes are secured. I have a 2 inch Yakima, but not sure if I should use an adapter to put the rack on the Camry1 1/4. The rack would really stick out the back end of the car. Thank you.

As you can see in the attached installation video for the Curt trailer hitch on a 2005 Camry the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the rear bumper is 2-3/8 inches. You want at least an inch more of clearance when choosing a bike carrier so a carrier with 3-1/2 or more will work great on your car.

A really nice bike rack I recommend is the Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack, part # KU74FR. This bike rack features hooks that hold the bikes secure by the wheel and not by the frame. The bike rack also tilts(even with bikes loaded) for easy access to the rear of your vehicle. This bike carrier has a weight capacity of 40-lbs per bike and will work with 1-1/4 inch hitches as well as 2 inch if you should switch vehicles.
