Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2001 Saturn SC1 Coupe Behind an RV
Question:
We just bought a used 2003 Holiday Rambler Neptune 34PDD, and we want to flat tow our 2001 Saturn SC1 3-door coupe. What parts do we need? Also, do you have specific information about towing this model year SC1? The owners manual for that model does not exist that I could find after hours of searching. GM doesnt even have it. Its our first RV and first time to flat tow. We are looking for the least expensive items that will serve our needs and any info we can find. Thanks!

First, while you might not be able to find a digital copy of the manual you can find paper copies out there. One thing you might try is to find someone near you selling the same car and go look at their manual for the flat towing procedures.
From what I could find you can flat tow your 2001 Saturn SC1. It is not recommended to tow it over 65 miles per hour. Additional information is available once you locate an owner's manual.
To flat tow the vehicle there are 5 main parts you will need: base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking. I will recommend the parts that cost the least in each category.
For base plates you can use # 52181-1. For a compatible tow bar you can use # RM-020 but to use it and have the base plate arms easily removable you will also need quick disconnects # RM-201. For safety cables use # C80176. I also recommend adding a couple of quick links # C82932.
For lighting the most cost effective option is going to be # RM-2120. I have linked a video review of these lights for you.
You may also need a high/low adapter to keep the tow bar level. I have linked a help article showing how to measure and a link to the high/low adapters we carry.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. Since your Hoilday Rambler Neptune has air brakes the best system for you is the Air Force One # SM99243. Using a system designed for air brakes prevents false braking on the Saturn which will cause a lot more wear on the vehicle. It isn't the least expensive option but the braking system is not a component that you want to spend less money on. Spending on safety is a good investment!
