Brake controllers are not vehicle specific, so you will be able to use the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, # 90885, on your 1990 Chevy C/K. You will need some additional parts in order to install the brake controller.

You will first need to install a 4-Way, Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118315, unless the truck already has a 4-Way. I have included a link to the installation details below.

With a 4-Way installed, you then would need to install a 4 and 7-Way Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This kit comes with all the necessary components to allow the 7-Way and brake controller to work. I have included a link below to an FAQ on installing a brake controller from scratch and explains the installation of an ETBC7 kit. I have also included a link to a video showing the installation of an ETBC7 kit.

In terms of where to mount the brake controller, it is really up to you. You will want to mount it in an easily accessible location. Many people install them on the bottom of the dash, to the right of the steering wheel. I have included a link to the installation details for the brake controller that explains the mounting procedure.

When you see 2-4 brakes or 6-8 brakes, what that means is how many electric brakes the brake controller will work with. A single axle will have 2 brakes. A Dual axle might have 2 brakes (a set on just one axle) or both axles might have brakes bringing the total to 4. The pattern continues for 6-8 brakes. I have included an FAQ on brake controllers with additional helpful information.
