How can I carry 4 bikes with a 2016 Prius

Question:

Vehicle: 2016 Prius 3 touring model. I see that you recommend a two bike rack for the Prius, but I would like the flexibility to haul up to four bikes. Is this rack a good choice or would it be best to settle for the two bike rack on my vehicle?

I highly recommend sticking with a 2 bike rack if you are going with a hitch rack. Your Prius uses a Class I trailer hitch which should not carry any more than 2 bikes per the vehicle and bike rack manufacturer. I recommend looking at the Thule Camber 2 Bike Rack # TH9058 which is a great fit.

Also since you are going to be carrying multiple bikes you may want to look at the Thule Bike Adapter Bar # TH982XT which will allow you to carry women's and alternative frame bikes. If you are carrying an alternative frame style bike without an adapter they will not ride level with the road. I have also attached a review video of the Thule Bike Adapter Bar.

Another recommended product is the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device # THSTL2 in order to lock the rack to your hitch.

For an option to carry more than 2 bikes I suggest looking into the Thule roof rack made up of the 53 inch WingBars # TH711400, Evo Clamp Feet # TH710501, and the fit kit # TH145029 for your Prius. Then you can add a roof bike rack like the Yakima FrontLoader # Y02103. You'll need two to carry both bikes on the roof. I have included a video review of the FrontLoader for you to take a look at.

The WingBars also come in black using # TH711420 if you prefer.
