Is Side-to-Side Play in Lower Jaw Normal with Lippert Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Box LC328492

Question:

I have a flexair long jaw replacing my 1621. Where the lower jaw pivots on the main unit, is there supposed to be any side to side play in it? It seems like on my last trip I noticed a bit of a clunking around back there and isolated it to the pivot point of the lower jaw. When I rock my truck, or the trailer even, from side to side there is a fair amount of play in that pivot point. Ive checked both bolts to make sure they are tight, coupled and uncounted and both sides are tight.

On the Trailair Flex Air 5th Wheel Pin Box # LC328492, which replaces a Lippert 1621 pin box, the lower jaw section will have some side to side play. My technical contact at Lippert confirmed that because the front of the lower section is held in place mostly by the shock and air spring, some horizontal motion is normal. This is part of the design's intentional flexibility which helps soften the ride.
