Universal Trailer Wiring Harness For 1998 Range Rover
Question:
I have a Range Rover. 89 p38 a. It has a special internal plug for attaching the trailer wire harness. Of course its designed for a European seven which is completely useless in the states. It should be relatively straightforward to attach the wiring for an American seven pin plug. I think this kit is exactly what I need. Although Ill probably end up adopting it to a flat four I want the ability in the future to add electric brakes. Right now I need it for renting trailers. The last thing I need or want is to have a short in the trailer to blow up my internal computer. So 1. Will this isolate the trailer wiring from my Range Rover wiring? So I will not need to worry about bad wiring killing my rover. 2. Why would it include three fuses for each line instead of one fuse for power supply? 3. Would you be able to include parts for the Land Rover plug.

The Universal Wiring Harness w/ ModuLite and Brake Controller Harness, part # 22551 is designed as a hardwire kit that pretty much includes everything you need to install a 7-way trailer connector on your Range Rover. The module protects your vehicle wiring and gets its power right from the battery instead of drawing power through the vehicle wiring which means no stress on the vehicle wiring.
I recommend using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and test the wires on your vehicle to attach to the vehicle side harness. I have attached a drawing that shows how the wiring is run when installing this harness. This kit includes the vehicle side 7-way, trailer side 7-way, and a hardwire brake controller harness. If you are not installing a brake controller, then you can disregard that part of the drawing. One fuse is used for the stop light circuit, one for the 12V power for the module, and the third is used for the brake controller power wire, which may not be used in your case.
In the future if you decide to add a brake controller, I recommend part # 90885. This is our most popular because it is easy to install and operate.
