Tekonsha P3 Installation on a 2016 GMC Sierra with Integrated Brake Controller

Question:

Im getting conflicting advice on how to install my brake controller in my 2016 GMC Sierra. My truck has the integrated brake controller, but I have electric over hydraulic brakes so I bought a Tekonsha P3 and the wiring adapter. When I plug everything in the controller powers up, but when my trailer is plugged it still says no trailer is attached. Ive been told to run a blue wire, Ive been told its a fuse issue, and others tell me my integrated controller should have worked. Can you set me straight?!

You will need to run a wire from the 7-way of the truck back to the blue wire of the P3 part # 90195. For that we have the part # 10-1-1.

Route the blue wire through the firewall, under the truck, and to the trailer connector. Avoid hot or moving parts like suspension and exhaust.

At the trailer connector, remove the wire in the 7 oclock position (looking at the back of the connector where the wires attach). Tape it up and stow it out of the way. Then attach the wire you ran to the 7 oclock position. This will bypass the factory controller without causing any dash lights/error messages to appear.

The 10-1-1 wire is sold in lengths of 1 foot. So if you needed 20 feet you would put 20 in the quantity box.
