Will etrailer Cargo Bag Fit Draw-Tite Cargo Carrier or Block Tail Lights/Exhaust on 2009 Honda CR-V

Question:

Awesome web site! OK, we have a 2009 Honda CRV. We also have a DrawTie cargo carrier which measures 26X63 1/2 inside space, eliminating the rounded corners, is about 23x52h. I love the look of your product....BUT am concerned about it fitting my car and carrier properly. It doesnt seem we can try the size anywhere - certainly if we buy online we cant. Here are my questions and concerns. I appreciate your guidance: 1. Will your bag fit into my carrier? 2. Will a full bag obstruct my tail lights? 3. What about exhaust pipe clearance ? Again, I love the 20 cubic feet volume of your bag but I cant afford to buy your bag and have it not fit. Thank you in advance for your help.

The etrailer cargo bag # 988501 is 59 inches long and 24 inches wide meaning that you will likely have to tuck it in at the corners so that the whole bag fits in your carrier. This can actually help it stay in place better than if the bag had slightly smaller dimensions than the carrier.

The overall width of your 2009 Honda CR-V is approximately 72 inches. I believe it is a little more narrow at the back. The bag being 59 inches long could block the tail lights a little but it does not appear that it would block them completely. If you measure the space between the tail lights on the vehicle and it is less than 59 inches then the bag will not block the tail lights.

The exhaust is going to depend on how far back the bag and carrier will be and if the carrier has a rise in the shank that holds the carrier deck up above the direct path of the exhaust. If it was in the path of the exhaust you would want at least 12 inches from the exhaust tip to the nearest object behind it.
