Is Trimming of the Vehicle Required When Installing a Trailer Hitch on a 2008 Toyota Matrix
Question:
will the installation of curt 12221 hitch on my 2008 Matrix be free of any cutting of my car trim. Should i choose a differant brand for better fit and no triming? Thank you

The only trimming or modification required is if your 2008 Toyota Matrix is an XR or XRS model. The installation instructions for Curt Trailer Hitch, # 12221, linked below, state that if you do have an XR or XRS model, the lower valance MAY require trimming. All of the available trailer hitches have similar disclaimers; that trimming MAY be required.
If you plan on doing some towing, the trailer hitch comes with the required ball mount. You can use hitch ball # 19256 (1-7/8 inch diameter) or # 19258 (2 inch diameter). For trailer wiring, you will need T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector, # 118386. I have included a link to the installation details below.
All non-trailer loads require stabilizing straps, # 18050, per Curt warranty requirements.
