Recommended Weight Distribution System For 2012 Ford F-150

Question:

I have a 2012 F-150 that I put a atv in the back. My truck hitch says 5000lbs 500 TW and with WD hitch 10,500lbs 1050 TW. With a 18inch extender to have tail gate down. Trailer weight is 4000 TW 400 and approximately 400lbs behind rear truck axle. Recommendation on WD hitch.

Using an extension in your trailer hitch will reduce the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. There are no extensions available that are designed to work with weight distribution.

When choosing a weight distribution system for your F-150 towing a trailer is to find a system where the total tongue weight is near the middle of the range for the system. With your tongue weight at 400-lbs and you said an additional 400-lbs behind the rear axle you need a system that has 800-lbs near the middle of the range.

I recommend the system you came from, the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System, part # EQ37100ET. This system is designed for tongue weight between 600 and 1,000 lbs. This system also has 4-point sway control that helps when driving through high winds and when passing large trucks. The shank length for this system is 12-inches.
