Comparing Draw-Tite and Curt Trailer Hitches for a 2016 Kia Sorento 4 Cylinder

Question:

What are the difference between the 2 hitchs offered. I have a 4 cylinder. Which one would be the best for a small trailer hauling?

The Curt trailer hitch # C13195 and Draw-Tite hitch # 75908 have similar designs and install the same way. Customers like the finish on the Curt hitch more. The biggest different is the tongue weight capacity of each of the hitches. The Curt hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 750 pounds and the Draw-Tite is rated at 500 pounds.

But you have to go by the lowest rated component in the system. According to the owner's manual the Kia Sorento has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 280 pounds for the Theta II 2.4 liter motor, 350 pounds for the Theta II 2.0 liter motor, and 500 pounds for the Lambda II 3.3 liter motor.

Your 4 cylinder will have either the 2.0 or 2.4 motor. The gross trailer weight capacity of the 2.0 or 2.4 motor is 1,650 pounds if the trailer does not have brakes or 2,000 if it does have brakes. And for the 2.0 motor on a vehicle equipped with the factory trailer package the capacity is 3,500 pounds.

Since both hitches cover all of these capacities the Curt hitch # C13195 is a great value and will work well for some light duty towing. I have linked a video showing an example installation of this hitch for you.

If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.

If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

For trailer wiring, if the vehicle does not have the optional trailering package you can use # HM11143820 to add a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of the vehicle. If it does have the trailering package you can use # C56332.
