There is a special circumstance when using a Class I trailer hitch for towing. Basically you will have to use the ball mount specified by the hitch manufacturer or it can void the warranty. This is to ensure that the wrong ball mount is not used (which could be too much stress on a Class I hitch).

Trailer hitch C11085 does not fit your 1992 Mercedes 400E. The hitch you need is # C11816. The recommended ball mount for this hitch is # C45503. For a compatible 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch use # 19258.

You could also use 1-7/8 inch Euro ball mount # C45551 or the 2 inch version # C45552. We do not have the distance from the ground to the receiver for this particular hitch and vehicle. But in this case it would not matter since you have to use one of the 3 ball mounts listed above.

For trailer wiring I recommend the ZCI harness # 119250KIT because with it you will not have to splice into the vehicle wiring for installation.
