Does Bumper Have To Be Trimmed When Installing Trailer Hitch On 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek
Question:
Its a little difficult to see in the pictures if this hitch will require that I cut the bottom of the plastic bumper. Can you advise, please? Thanks

I have attached the installation instructions for the trailer hitch we offer for your 2014 Crosstrek.
I recommend the Curt Hitch, part # C13135. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2 inch receiver opening. Per the installation instructions, the only modification on the vehicle is to enlarge the holes so the mounting hardware can be used. There is no mention of trimming the bumper.
Per Curt's Tech notes, a stabilizing strap like part # 18050 is required for all non-trailer loads used in the hitch.
The other hitches we offer for your Crosstrek are Class l hitches which have 1-1/4 inch receiver openings and they have a lower weight capacity.
I recommend going with the Class lll hitch, # C13135 because there is a much wider selection of accessories for a 2 inch receiver.
If you plan on doing some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If you need trailer wiring I recommend the T-One Wiring harness, part # 118467.
I have attached a link to some of the items we offer for a hitch you can take a look at. If you have any questions about a specific item let me know and I can make some recommendations that will work for you.
