I went out to the warehouse and pulled a 6-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, # H20036, and used a couple of measuring tools designed to measure wiring sizes. All of the wires were 14 gauge.
Yes, this will work as a replacement for the standard Hopkins 6 pin round. You will want to cut the wires at the back of the current 6-way connector on your trailer and wire in the Hopkins 6-Way Molded Connector, # H20036. It is important that the wires on the connector are connected to the trailer wires according to function, not color.
On the Hopkins 6-way connector, the red wire should connect to the brake circuit, the black wire to the auxiliary power source such as a trailer battery, the green wire to the right turn and brake circuit, the yellow wire to the left turn and brake circuit, the brown wire is for the tail light or running light circuit and the white wire should be grounded to a clean, bare metal section of the trailer frame.
I have attached a Help Article on trailer wiring that you should find helpful when wiring your trailer connector for your convenience.
