Crossbar Spread Compatibility of Yakima SkyBox 21 Part # Y07337

Question:

Im interested in the Yakima Skybox.... I think. I have a 2012 RAV 4 Limited. There was something in your video about 57inch separation of the ? crossbars? My rack and crossbars are all stock but they can never be 57 inches apart What am I doing wrong here? Thanks

The Yakima Skybox 21, part # Y07337 will fit crossbar spreads ranging from 24-42 inches so it should fit just fine on your crossbars. The 57 inch figure you heard was the distance used to determine if the box will prevent a liftgate-type rear door from opening fully. You'd measure from the center of the front crossbar (moved all the way forward, if it's adjustable) back to the seam between the roof and the rear hatch. If this distance is 57 inches or more, the SkyBox 21 won't interfere with the rear hatch opening fully.

Can I put my crossbars at 44.5" . I know Yakima recommends 42" max, but my 1 nursert (name??) Is loose and my bolt won't screw into it so I can only screw 1 of the 2 screwa on that side of the crossbar. Would make like so much easier if this was possible.

@Wpbteacher2 Unfortunately, the mounting clamps of the # Y07337 Yakima SkyBox 21 only adjust out to 42 inches. It won't fit a bar spread of 44-1/2 inches. However, the Thule # TH629906 Motion XT box fits bar spreads up to 36-7/8 inches, so it'll work great for you!

My crossbars on my Escalade are 24.5" apart. Is that too much since you recommend a max of 42"? Thanks. I am hoping it will be fine, but wanted to check. Thanks for your time sir.

@Neil As long as your bar spread is between 24-42 inches apart, you're going to be good to go. At 24-1/2 inches, you fall within that range.
