Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 1993 Isuzu Trooper RS with Jeep DV8 Front Bumper Installed

Question:

I want to tow a 93 Isuzu Trooper RS 2 door, 5,400 lbs, drive shaft disconnected.. Intend to tow 400 miles each way. It has an aftermarket winch bumper by DV8. Although intended for a Jeep Wrangler, it fit the Isuzu without modification. ***But I believe the Trooper weighs MORE than a JK Jeep Wrangler.**** DV8 bumper info: MODEL - DV8-FBSHTB-02 QUESTIONS: 1 Is it acceptable to tow this Isuzu by the 2 front D-loops on the DV8 bumper? Well use a Blue Ox Aventa LX tow bar. 2 I see several different lug /adapters to use on the D-loops. I dont know which is best or appropriate since my brand of bumper DV8 is not listed. Do you know the diameter of the holes on the D-Ring mounts that are on the bumper? If so then you could use Blue Ox adapter such as # BX88296 for 7/8 inch diameter if that is the hole size.

There are also options for 3/4 inch D-Rings # RM-035 or 1 inch rings # RM-035-1 but you would then have to use a Roadmaster tow bar such as the Falcon 2 # RM-520. If you go with the Roadmaster set up then the tow bar does not come with safety cables like the Blue Ox Aventa LX does. So for safety cables I recommend # RM-643.

For lighting I recommend a simple magnetic kit # RM-2120 mainly because of the quick and easy set up and the fact that it bypasses the vehicle wiring.

You may also need a high/low adapter to keep the tow bar level. I have linked a help article showing how to measure and a link to the high/low adapters we carry.

And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers and what I recommend is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.

Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
