First you'll want to check your Ford owner's manual to confirm your particular truck, with its specific mix of cab style, engine, transmission and suspension components, has the required towing capacity for your 6500-lb trailer. If you cannot verify this in the manual your local dealership can look up the truck's VIN to confirm its tow rating.

I checked the online manual for the 2010 F-150 and on pages 256-258 the towing capacities of the different configurations are listed. Trailer weight ratings range from a low of 5400-lbs up to 11,300-lbs. You'll need to confirm your cab style, engine displacement and rear axle ratio to know the truck's towing capacity.

If your trailer is a bumper pull type you'll need a Class IV hitch on the truck, a ball mount, hitch ball and wiring harness. I linked our main page for hitches for your truck; use the drop-down menu to select your vehicle style to then see hitches that fit. If you don't have a factory hitch then you can use Curt Class IV hitch # C14002. The recommended ball mount # 40202 can be used with 2-inch ball # A-90 or 2-5/16-inch ball # 19286.

For a wiring harness you can use # 18252 or if you have the factory tow package part # C56110.

Pricing is shown on each item's page and you can keep track of the total by adding them to your shopping cart.
