Idea for Mounting P3 Brake Controller in a 2016 Jeep Cherokee
Question:
I just purchased the Tekonsha P3 controller and the 3014-P wiring harness to install into my new 2016 Jeep Cherokee with tow package. I have located the wiring connector in the Jeep, but am having a hard time finding a good place to physically mount the controller to the dash. My Cherokee has the knee-bolster airbags, so I am not seeing a nice spot to drill into for the mounting screws. I was considering mounting the controller over the change box lower left dash with velcro, but know that a hard mount is preferred. Do you have a recommended spot for the controller mount in the new Cherokees? Thanks!

Helpful Expert Reply:
Using Velcro (as long as it's the industrial strength stuff) would be just fine for mounting the P3 # 90195. On newer vehicles it's getting harder to find decent mounting locations but as long as you can securely mount the controller and it is facing the rear of your vehicle squarely where you mentioned you would be just fine.
Since this controller senses deceleration to apply the correct amount of braking power you need to ensure that the Velcro is firmly holding the controller to the vehicle and would not allow any movement.
