Troubleshooting LED Taillights Installed on Mobility Scooter Carrier
Question:
I recently purchased 4 of the STL88RCB lights. I have a cargo carrier on the back of my 2015 Honda Pilot that is used to carry my wifes mobility scooter. I want to leave the carrier on the car at all times and decided to put lights on it for safety. I put two of the LED lights on the back of the carrier so theyre visible when the carrier is in use. I also put two of the LED lights on the bottom of the carrier so theyre visible when the carrier is in the upright stowed position. I wired them using a roll of 4-conductor trailer wire and a 7- pole plug, PK12706. The white wire connects to the white wire on all of the lights. The brown wire is connected to the black wire on all of the lights. The green wire connect to the red wire on the two lights on the right side of the carrier. The yellow wire connects to the red wire on the two lights on the left side of the carrier. All of the connections were soldered and then heat shrinked. I connected the wires at the 7-pole connector per the diagram on your site. When I start the car and turn the lights on all 4 lights come on. When I turn on the left turn signal both left hand lights flash very brightly. When I turn on the right turn signal the right hand lights dont flash at all but the left hand lights have a dim flicker. When I apply the brakes or the 4-ways the left hand lights flash brightly but no change to the right hand lights. Ive used a meter to check continuity from the plug to the solder connection at each light and I have complete circuits for every wire. I cant figure out whats wrong. Is it possible there is something wrong internally with two of the lights? Id be grateful for any suggestion you may have. Thanks,

At first glance, all the wiring connections you mention seem as if they're fine. However, the symptoms you describe sound like there's both a ground connection problem (which is why both sides flash with the turn signals) and a bad connection for the right turn signal.
Please review the connections at the 7-way for the ground connections and the right turn signal. Make sure they're all connected correctly. Make sure the trailer connector ground connection on the vehicle side is secure. Use a circuit tester like part # 40376 and check the red wires behind the right side taillights. You should get signal on those wires while the right turn signal is activated.
I've also linked you to a trailer connector troubleshooting FAQ article. Please check the items I mentioned above, and get back with me to let me know what you found.
