Fitment and Compatibility of Cargo Carrier and Cargo Bag on a 2015 Honda CR-V

Question:

Looking at buying the etrailer cargo carrier - e98874 for my 2015 Honda CRV. Also looking to buy your Extra large cargo bag 988501. Will I need to have trailer lights added or would the tail lights on my car be sufficient? How about the bag/carrier affecting my back-up camera? First time buying from your site and Im really impressed by all the info. you have about your products. Thanks!

I can help you answer all your questions about the cargo carrier and bag for your 2015 Honda CR-V.

First thing we will want to make sure is that you have a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver on your CR-V. If you need one I recommend the Draw-Tite # 75742. This Class III hitch has a high weight capacity and will work well for you, because ultimately you will be limited by the lowest rated components capacity. If you already have a factory hitch we will just want to make sure it is a 2 inch receiver to be compatible with the cargo carrier you were looking at and is rated for your cargo.

With a 2 inch trailer hitch, the etrailer Cargo Carrier # e98874 is a confirmed fit for the 2015 Honda CR-V. I have linked a demonstration video of the rack installed on avehicle for your convenience.

The etrailer Cargo Bag # 988501, you were looking at has a total available height of 24 inches, so let's say you fill the bag to the max height. Will this clear your taillights and back-up camera? To find out we measure from the center of your hitch. First we will add 2 inches to accommodate the rise of the shank to the platform of the carrier and then add 24 inches for the max bag spread, for a total of 26 inches. If your taillights are still visible after measuring 26 inches from the center of your hitch then you will not need a light kit for the cargo carrier. Lighting kits are never a bad idea, but if either the cargo load or the cargo carrier itself blocks the vehicle's tail lights, they are required. This blockage typically occurs on small SUVs when the tail lights are close together. I looked at the pictures we have from the 2015 Honda CR-V when we installed the # e98874 and it appears that the taillights aren't blocked even when in the folded up position, but I recommend measuring to be sure. If you decide you want a lighting kit I like the # e98943-44LED, because it easily mounts around the bar of the cargo carrier and comes with everything you will need to get it up and running.

If you don't already have a 4way plug on your vehicle for the lights the wiring harness you will need is the # 118561. One other item you may want to consider is a receiver lock. This is a great theft deterrent and will secure your cargo carrier to your vehicle even when in the folded position. I recommend the anti-rattle # 63232, because it not only locks your rack to your vehicle it also helps with any excessive noise and any play in the hitch, that can be created when the metal components move within each other.

I have linked a few installation videos of the parts mentioned above installed on the 2014 version of your vehicle for your convenience.
