There are fifth wheel hitch rail kits that are confirmed as fits for your 1996 Dodge Dakota.

For a rail kit the universal Reese kit part # RP30035 will fit and provide you with rails.

If you have a 8 foot bed the Reese hitch part # RP30047 will fit and work well but if you have a short bed you will need a slider hitch to allow you to make tight turns. For that you will need the part # RP30075. Both of these hitches would give you more than enough towing capacity for a 10k capacity since they are rated for 16k. You will need to check the owners manual of your vehicle to verify that you have the towing capacity for the trailer you plan to tow.

For a 7-way to install in the bed of your truck to make connecting your trailer lights easier you would want the part # 41157. Most 7-ways will be at the rear of the truck near the bumper which doesn't work will with fifth wheel hitches.
