Can a Sidewinder Replacement Pin Box be Used to Tow a Trailer on Uneven Ground
Question:
I am looking at getting a new truck for hauling my 5th wheel and would like to go with a shorter bed. After looking into found the sidewinder hitch, which seems to solve the bed-length problem, but brought up a new question. How does the sidewinder hitch handle on uneven travel, like that which would be found in most mountain campgrounds in Montana. Most often you will not only be going up or down but have simultaneous grades going side to side/left or right?

The use of a Sidewinder replacement pin box will be the same as if you were using the factory pin box on the trailer in regards to the ride and uneven terrain. The only thing the Sidewinder is doing is moving the trailer pivot point back 22 inches. It is the hitch head that needs to be able to tilt side to side, not the pin box.
For Sidewinders they will only fit certain factory pin boxes. I would need to know the manufacturer and model number of the pin box to determine if there is a Sidewinder that will fit. This information is usually found on a sticker or plate on the pin box itself. I have also included a link to our informational article on Sidewinders for you.
