Where to Attach Curt Stabilization Strap on a 2008 Ford Edge to Carry a Bike Rack

Question:

I will be putting this receiver on a 08 Ford Edge. I will be hauling a 55 pound e bike. It talks about using a stabilizing strap. Where is that put?

Curt does not specify where the stabilization strap # 18050 has to go on a vehicle, just that it has to be attached to the vehicle and the carrier in the hitch. Generally you will want the connection point on your 2008 Ford Edge to be higher than where it is attached at the bike rack. It would probably be easiest to attach the vehicle end to the gap between the rear hatch and the body of the vehicle somewhere.

If you go with one of the Draw-Tite trailer hitches ( # 75992, # 36447) you would not have to use the strap. For a Class II hitch with 1-1/4 inch receiver it would be # 36447.

There aren't a lot of bike racks that are rated for 55 pounds per bike, and fewer still that fit Class II hitches as well. The Saris Freedom EX # SA4025F is one option that will work, rated for 60 pounds per bike.

The Kuat NV2, # NV12G, is rated for 60 pounds per bike.

And the Thule EasyFold # TH903202 is rated for 65 pounds per bike. It also has ramps that make loading and unloading a heavy bike much easier.
