Hitch Reducer Sleeve to Allow Use of 2-Inch Weight Distribution Shank in 2-1/2-Inch Hitch Receiver

Question:

Hi there... I have a RAM 2500 with a 2.5 receiver. I need a sleeve that will reduce it to 2 inches. The Reese one I found at Home Depot Model #: 7028711 which is on the Reese website as well says not to be used with a weight distribution system. I am towing aprox. 8000 pounds with camper and gear with a 4 point Equalizer hitch weight and sway control system. Which sleeve would you recommend? Thank you!

To convert your truck's 2-1/2-inch Class V hitch to a 2-inch opening for use with a 2-inch weight distribution shank you can use the Curt part # C45405. This reducer sleeve is fully compatible with weight distribution systems and other 2-inch hitch-mounted accessories. You can click on the two linked videos for more information.

You will also want to check your hitch's safety ticker to confirm it is rated for use with weight distribution.

Hime I drive an F-350 and I'm pulling a 30 ft toy hauler. I already had an Equalizer hitch that fit a 2 in receiver so I decided to sleeve my trucks receiver hitch. When I pulled my toy hauler for the very first time I noticed that even though I'd had my equalizer tuned so that there was no sway I started getting a lot of sway is that because it's a newer truck newer trailer or the sleeve. What do I need to do to fix this problem and eliminate the sway.

You might need to adjust the system a bit to put more tension on the spring bars. Try tilting the head back to see if this helps. I suppose it's possible the sway is being caused by the reducer sleeve, but I would put this towards the bottom of the list to rule out.
