Troubleshooting Dim Running Lights On Trailer Towed By 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
Question:
I have low voltage on the pin for the running lamps on my factory installed trailer plug on my 2005 jeep grand Cherokee limited. The brake and turn lights both work well on my trailer. Where do I look for issues on my jeep to make the running lamps work?

The first thing I recommend is to check the pins on your trailer wiring harness on both the vehicle and the trailer. Look for any damage or corrosion and repair as needed. You may want to use a multimeter like part # PT89ZR and check the voltage output to the running light pins on the vehicle. You should be somewhere around 7 volts.
Then check the grounds on the running lights on the trailer. Look for signs of a pinched or damaged wire or possibly corrosion or loose ground wire on the trailer.
If you find you are getting the voltage to the trailer wiring, you may have too many lights on the trailer. You could switch them out to LED lights since LEDs draw much less power. I have attached a link to our product page for the LED trailer lights we offer you can check out.
