Is Thule Outbound Roof Cargo Bag Compatible with a 2000 Toyota Sienna and How does it Install

Question:

I have a 2000 Toyota Sienna van. Were going to the beach and dont have much cargo space 5 in the car. I have a roof rack - will this cargo carrier work for my car? How weather-resistant is it? Whats the best way to attach it to the roof rack? Im afraid that should I have to hit the brakes hard, it may go flying off the roof!

For the 2000 Toyota Sienna with a factory roof rack (that includes cross bars that run side to side), the Thule Outbound Roof Cargo Bag, # TH868, will fit. The bag will attach to the crossbars using straps that are attached to the bag; two at the front and two at the back. The straps include a buckle system that you pull tight manually. As long as you have attached the straps to the cross bars and tightened them down, the bag will not leave the roof in an emergency braking situation.

The bag is weather resistant but not weather proof. This means that it is possible for some moisture to get into the bag; usually a driving rain will cause some moisture to get in. I recommend putting things you do not want to get wet in plastic containers just in case.

I recommend checking the roof weight capacity in the owners manual of your Sienna before loading cargo. The bag has a capacity of 13 cubic feet. The crossbars will have their own capacity, and the roof will have its own capacity. Which ever is the lowest is the capacity you need to stay under.

If you have side rails that run front to back but no cross bars, I recommend adding them before using a cargo bag. You would need Thule Evo Raised Rail Feet # TH710401, 53" WingBar Evo Crossbars # TH711420, as well as locks # TH450400.
