Additional Equipment Required for Flat Towing a 2010 Toyota Tacoma with Roadmaster Tracker Tow Bar

Question:

I would like to tow my 2010 Toyota Tacoma behind my RV. Im looking at the RM-020 and the XL base plate. Will this all work and what lighting do you recommend? Anything else I need to consider? Id like to do the installation myself.

The Roadmaster Tracker Tow Bar is compatible with the XL bases plates, part # 1175-1, that will fit your 2010 Tacoma as long as it is not an X-Runner model. With these two parts, your tow bar is set. All you have left is wiring/lights and possibly a supplemental braking system.

We have two basic options for wiring/lights. You can use a diode wiring kit like part # RM-154. This kit wires diodes into your existing Tacoma wiring and will use the factory Tacoma lights when towing. I have added a link to a video of this kit being installed on a 2006 Jeep Liberty below. If you do not feel comfortable with wiring or do not want to splice into the wiring on your Tacoma, you can use a magnetic or temporary light system like part # RM-2120.

You will also need safety cables should the tow bar become disconnected. These are required by law across the country. Check out part # RM-645.

I would also recommend checking with the local laws of the state/states you will be towing in. Certain states require supplemental braking systems when flat towing vehicles. I have added a link below to the supplemental braking systems we have for flat towing a vehicle should you find you need or want one.
