Brake Controller Displays L Error Code After Vehicles Alternator Is Replaced
Question:
We recent had the alternator replaced on our car and now our Curt electric brake controller is displaying an L. Ive checked the manual and there is no error code for L. Any ideas?

My initial suspicion is that when the vehicle's electrical system powered back up after the alternator was replaced, a voltage spike hit the brake controller, causing the display you mentioned. My contact in the Tech Services department at Curt has confirmed this. According to Curt, if you unplug the controller for a few minutes then plug it back it, in most cases the brake controller will once again function normally. In rare instances, this can cause a internal short circuit in the controller, which means it would need to be replaced.
