Recommended Universal Exterior Ladder for T-100 Truck Camper

Question:

Hi, I would like to mount a Surco universal ladder or similiar brand to the rear wall of my 2004 Six-Pac T100 truck camper. I do not want to use the upper section that attaches to the roof. I want to mount only to the rear wall. This ladder will not be used to access the roof . The ladder will only be used as an accessory rack for chairs etc. Do I need extra parts to eliminate the unpper ladder loop that attached to the roof? Can you suggest a manufactured that makes a ladder that does not attach to the roof of and RV? Thanks!.....very satisfied customer.

The key to installing an exterior ladder like the Surco # SP501L is to ensure that you have structural elements at the rear of the camper to mount it. You can certainly leave off the top roof-mount portion and simply install the straight part of the ladder with the four included stand-offs. But in any case you want to ensure that you have strong enough materials under the camper's skin to securely accept the hardware and handle the weight load you'll put on it. Even though you're not going to climb up the ladder, just use it to hold chairs, etc, you still need to ensure that you have suitable installation points for the stand offs and the bottom of the ladder.

Since you do not need the full length of ladder # SP501L you might be better off with the shorter and lower-priced # SP502L.
