Can 1/4 Inch Brake Line be Used with Electric Over Hydraulic Trailer Brakes

Question:

I plan to add electric/hydraulic disc brakes to my toy hauler. It has tandem 7K axles. There will be approximately 18foot between the actuator and the first axle. Should I run 3/16inch brake line or 1/4? Seems like the actuator output is 3/16 and most brake line kits are 3/16. If 1/4inch at which point should it neck down to 3/16?

When installing electric over hydraulic brakes, disc or drum, going to a larger line would be fine but I would keep the size as consistent as possible to avoid any potential issues with a loss or increase in pressure from switching line sizes. If you have to go from one size line to another I would do it as far away from the brakes as you can.

At 18 feet, it is not really all that far so 3/16 inch line should be fine. However if you experience slow brake response time then larger lines will help. But I don't see it being a problem on your set up. I have included a link to the brake line kits we have for disc brakes.

One manufacturer of electric over hydraulic braking systems, Hydrastar, sells 1/4 inch lines and recommends using a reducer tee at the first axle, and all of the lines for each axle, and between the axles use 3/16 inch line.
