Platform Style 2 Bike Rack to Fit 1-1/4 and 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receivers

Hello, Im looking to buy a new bike rack. In particular, the Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack for 2inch Hitches - Platform Style - Tilting. I see some notes on the product and have a question. The notes are: Notes: • Do not use this rack with a hitch extender. • Do not install on your vehicle if your spare tire causes interference with bikes or with the carrier when its folded up. • Not for use with bikes that have fenders. I currently have a 1 1/4inch hitch but want to buy a 2inch bike rack. The rack should last many years and future vehicles will have a 2inch hitch. Can I use an adapter taking your product note into account? The adapter does extend the hitch. Thanks

I have a solution for you, but the Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack # Y02443 should not be used with any kind of hitch extender or hitch adapter. These are guidelines per Yakima for the HoldUp bike rack.

For a great quality 2 bike, platform-style bike rack that will fit both 1-1/4 and 2 inch trailer hitches, I recommend the Kuat Transfer 2 Bike Platform Rack # KU74FR. This rack has some of the same great features as the HoldUp.

The Transfer folds up against the vehicle when there are not bike loaded, and will tilt away from the vehicle, with the bikes on the rack, to allow access to the cargo area. When folded down, the closest edge of the carrier is 6 inches fro the center of the hitch pin.
