I would be happy to walk you through the process. First of all, you will need a 4-pole trailer wiring harness, part # 118524 if your Liberty does not already have one. You will then need our Brake Controller Install Kit, part # ETBC7 for a 7-way trailer connector, or # ETBC6 for a 6-way connector. The install kit includes all wire, connectors and circuit breakers necessary for the installation.
The kit includes a trailer connector adapter that plugs into the 4-pole harness. At this point, your trailer lighting connections are complete. The adapter has four additional wires. The white wire is grounded to the vehicle frame. The blue wire carries the output from the brake controller and is ran up to the engine compartment, and the black wire provides 12-volt power for any trailer accessories and is also ran to the positive battery terminal using a 40 amp inline circuit breaker that is included in the kit. The purple wire attaches to the reverse light circuit (if needed).
Your Voyager would mount under the dash, preferably to the right of the driver. The unit needs to be mounted so that it is pointed in the direction of travel, and between 70 degrees and minus 20 degrees of level. There are four wires exiting the rear of the unit. The red wire attaches to the cold side of the brake stoplight switch. The stoplight switch is located at the top of the brake pedal, the switch can have 3 or more wires exiting it. Use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test each wire until you locate the wire that only shows current when the brake pedal is pressed. Once you locate that circuit, tap the red wire into it.
The blue wire carries the brake controller output voltage and would run through the firewall and attach to the wire that is ran to the rear of the vehicle and attaches to the blue wire on the trailer connector adapter. The white wire is grounded to the negative battery terminal, and the black wire attaches to the positive battery terminal, using either the 20- or 30-amp circuit breaker included in the kit.
We have several online resources to assist with the install. I will provide links to our Install Guide as well as an installation video. The video shows a controller being installed on a different vehicle, but the procedure for your Liberty would be the same.
I will also provide a link to the instructions for the Voyager, in case you do not have them.
