5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Installation Kit for a 2009 Ford F-250 Short Bed

Question:

i am looking at getting a Curt C16521 Q16 slider hitch for my 2009 F250 super duty w/ 6.5foot bed. I am confused on the differences for the rail kits. The Reese RP50082-58 cost less compared to the RP56005-53 rails. Q1: Why is the 56005 so much more expensive only because the rails are longer Q2: Does the 50082 require that much more drilling to install? Q3: Maybe you have a better recommendation for a do it your selfer?

Reese custom installation kit # RP56005-53 for your 2009 Ford F-250 short bed uses different rails and brackets like you said. They are longer so that the frame brackets all install on the outboard sides of the frame making it much easier to install which takes less time. This is the kit I would go with if I was putting one in a truck.

The installation of custom kit # RP50082-58 does require some work on the inboard sides of the frame so installation is not quite as easy but there is no more or less drilling required for this kit. I have linked videos showing example installations of both kits for you.

The Reese kits are going to be your best options. There is a Curt option, # C16448-204, but you would have to drill into the truck frame so I would not recommend it.
