Is Drilling Needed to Install a Powered Trailer Wiring Harness in 2015 Chevrolet Malibu

Question:

Do you need to drill a hole to get the wire to the battery, or is there another way to route the wire. I cant seem to find a way to get the wire from the trunk to the battery

Routing the 12V power wire for a powered trailer wiring harness like the Tow Ready T-One # 118602 may require some drilling. Often there will be existing holes and/or wiring grommets that can be used but in some instances drilling a new hole will make the installation process easier. You just want to be very careful to check the area where you intend to drill to ensure there are no critical components behind it, such as other wiring, a brake line or a fuel line. If you do end up drilling a new hole in the car I suggest painting any exposed steel to inhibit corrosion and to also seal that hole after routing the wire - you can use a product like Loctite RTV 5699 High-Performance Silicone Gasket Maker # LT37464.

I have linked for you an installation video for a similar harness being installed in a 2015 Malibu and also an article with guidance for how to route that harness power wire.
