Trailer Grease Caps with Zerk Grease Fitting

Question:

I thought I was buying a greasable cap to replace the solid steel caps on my trailer hub. I think I made a mistake. I dont see any grease zerk fitting to put grease into. Could I get some guidance? I dont see any instructions or diagrams of how this part is installed. That might clear things up for me. Thanks,

Expert Reply:

Grease Cap set # RG04-040 are regular grease caps that have a rubber plug on the end to access a grease zerk fitting on the spindle (end of the axle). They install the same as regular grease caps. It sounds like you are looking for bearing protectors such as # BB1980A which are for regular spindles. I have linked a video review for you.

Either the Bearing Buddy # BB1968 or the stainless steel counterpart # BB1968SS (for corrosion resistance) will work perfectly. These are designed to fit the 1.968" bore diameter on your hubs.
