Recommended Long Weight Distribution Shank and Weight Distribution System For 10,000 Pound Trailer
Question:
Hi, I need a weight distribution hitch with the longest shank I can get. It needs a 2inch and at least 10,000 lb tow capacity. Are the ones with 16inch length measured from the hitch pin to the center of the ball? Thanks.

I recommend using an Equal-i-zer weight distribution system. For a weight distribution shank, I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank # EQ90-02-4500. This shank measures 18 inches long overall, and it measures 14 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the adjustment holes. It offer a maximum rise of 7 inches from the top of the receiver opening and a maximum drop of 3 inches from the top of the receiver opening. The shank has a weight capacity up to 14,000 pounds.
When choosing a weight distribution system, it is important to choose a system based on the tongue weight of your trailer. The system should be chosen based on the trailer's loaded and ready to tow tongue weight and gross trailer weight. A system with too high of a weight capacity can cause a stiff, rigid ride, while a system with too low a weight capacity won't work to distribute the weight.
If the loaded and ready to tow tongue weight of your trailer is between 1,000-1,200 pounds, with a gross trailer weight of no more than 12,000 pounds, I recommend the Equal-I-zer Weight Distribution with 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37121ET. This system does not come with a shank, but part # EQ90-02-4500 will work well with this system.
I have attached a link to all of our Equal-I-zer systems that do not come with a shank for you to be able to choose the best rated system for your set-up. I have also attached a help article on weight distribution systems for you.
