Expert Reply:

The most economical type of sway control for your 8-foot utility trailer is a friction-style unit like the Reese # 83660 or one of the similar systems shown on the linked page. These feature a user-adjustable friction bar to reduce trailer sway. Such system are compatible with electric trailer brakes, but not with surge brakes, and they do NOT allow you to back up the trailer when the friction unit is engaged. The friction bar must be removed or disengaged when backing up your trailer or when driving on icy or slippery roads.

To install one of these you will need a sway control bracket, either # RP26003 if you have a 2-inch hitch or part # RP26005 if you have a 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch.
