What Is The Difference Between Curt And Draw-Tite Trailer Hitches For 2009 Chrysler PT Cruiser
Question:
Reading a previous QandA about the above two hitches, it was noted that the Draw-Tite 24759 uses Six Bolts while the Curt Hitch C11132 uses Four Bolts, which would give added support for a non-trailer load. The description and Installation Instructions for the Curt C11132 notes Four Bolts on either side, total of Eight Bolts. Am I missing something? Also, does the separation of the Third Bolt on the Draw-Tite from the Two Main Bolts result in any support differences - the Curt Hitches Four Bolts are all clumped together. TY

You are correct that the instructions for the Curt hitch do require 4 bolts on each side, making that a total of 8 bolts for installation.
Both of the hitches have been designed and tested for the weight capacities listed. Curt warranty does require the use of a stabilizing strap like part # 18050.
The # C11132 and # 24759 are both Class l hitches with 2,000 lb towing capacity and 200 lb tongue weight capacity.
I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite and they told me the reason for using the two mounting tabs further back on the hitch is for added support to the rear frame instead of relying on one mounting area on the vehicle and also to help move the hitch further toward the rear of the vehicle.
You will always want to make sure you do not exceed the capacity of the lowest rated component whether it is the vehicle or trailer hitch when towing or carrying cargo.
