Weight Distribution System Recommended for 7,600 Pound Trailer

Question:

Im getting a travel trailer with 4,500 lb. GVW rating, but in a year I plan to upgrade to a 7,600 lb. trailer. Can I go ahead a buy the right weight rating hitch now, that Ill switch to the heavier trailer in a year? In other words, is there any disadvantage to buying a heavier weight rating weight distributing hitch than the current trailer requires? Tow vehicle F-150 with tow package will work with either trailer.

When choosing a weight distribution system, tongue weight is the key factor. With a weight distribution system, you generally want your trailer's tongue weight to fall in the middle-to-upper range of the WD system's tongue weight capacity. Towing a trailer with a weight distribution system rated too high will make the ride very stiff.

Since the tongue weights between your two trailers likely won't increase by very much, it is possible for you to buy one system that will work with both trailers. I recommend the Equil-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET. This system is rated for tongue weights up to 1,000 pounds, and will work with both your trailers. This weight distribution system uses steel-on-steel friction to stop trailer sway and features clamp-on brackets so you will not need to drill into your trailer's frame.
