2013 Ford F-150 XLT Brake Controller Recommendation
Question:
Hello, Ive got a 2013 Ford F-150 XLT CrewCab. It had a 4 and 7 pin connector installed from the factory but not the draw hitch. Ive previously added a Class III hitch and Id like to add a trailer brake controller for a one time move I have coming up. Ive looked under the dash and found the connecter. Heres my concern... Ive read on other sites that the Ford OEM brake controller can only be installed on trucks that came from the factory with the 4/7 Pin connector AND the hitch installed. Also, Ive read that it has to have a software flash done by the dealership to reprogram the truck before it will work. Will this part #90885 and the harness work on my truck? If so, is there anything required to make it work other than plug and play? Thanks for any help you can offer.

You can test the connector you found under the dash of your truck to see if it is active and ready for a brake controller to install into it. Using a circuit tester like the part # PTW2993 you should be able to find one pin that has voltage all the time and one that sees voltage only when the brakes are applied. If you do then the connector is read for the install of the # 22292 and the Prodigy P2 part # 90885 that you referenced.
I attached an install video for you to check out as well.
