Tire And Wheel Recommendation For Trailer With 4.80x12 Tires On 4 on 4 Wheels

Question:

I have an old pop-up camper that I made into a utility trailer. It has old 4.80x12 4on4 wheels on it . Will any wheel with these dimensions work?

The 4.80 X 12 is the size of the tire and the 4 on 4 is the bolt pattern of the wheel. The bolt pattern means it is a 4 hole wheel and the distance from the center of one hole to the center of the hole directly across from it is 4 inches.

Any wheel with a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern and a large enough pilot hole diameter will fit your trailer. You will need to check the weight capacity of your axle and get the correct tire size that will be rated above the weight capacity of your axle.

The 4 on 4 bolt pattern comes in 8 inch, 10 inch, 12 inch and 13 inch wheels. You will not want to go smaller than what you have, so you will be looking at the 12 or 13 inch size.

If you go larger than the 4.80 X 12 size tire ( 20.7 inch overall diameter and 4.9 inch overall width) you will always want to make sure to measure for clearance on your trailer. You will have to measure for height and width clearance.

I am including a link to a product page of 12 inch tires and wheels that will work on your trailer. I am also sending a link to a product page of 13 inch wheels and tires that could work if you have clearance for tires that are 24 inches tall and 6.6 inches wide.
