Radial or Bias Ply Trailer Tire for Off Road Use

Question:

We just completed our 39th trip to Baja and trailer tires for my 25foot toy hauler has always been a problem. I need a tire that has thick side walls and has a name for being a good off road trailer tire. When Im off pavement I have to air down the trailer tires or every thing would be shaken to pieces. When I do this Im keeping my speed down to 10 to 15 miles per hour. Would I be better off with a bias type tire? I have found tires that were made in China were junk. They wore out quickly or had other problems.

Bias ply tires do have a stiffer sidewall that is commonly preferred in off road applications. Normally I recommend a radial over a bias-ply since most of what we sell is for on road applications, but for you a bias-ply would be better. I will say that nothing we offer is designed for the rigors of the Baja course. All I can recommend is what would be your best option that we offer.

I attached a link to a page that has all of the tires and wheel/tire combos we sell with bias ply tires on them. Since I don't know what size you are looking for that's as specific as I can be.

Nearly all trailer tires are made overseas now. Everything we carry was made in China or Taiwan.

With trailer tires you always want to run them at their max PSI to get the full capacity of the tire. Failure to do so will decrease the capacity of the tire. Excessive wear can easily happen if tires are under-inflated.
