Trailer Right Turn Signal Not Working when Connected to a 2004 Chevy Suburban 2500

Question:

When I connect my trailer wire to my truck all trailer lights work except my right turn signal on the trailer only? I dont have any power to the connector plug or the dark green right turn wire. I started to pull the complete 7 wire harness but wanted to ask before I go any further.

To determine if the problem is on the trailer or truck, you can disconnect the trailer and use a circuit tester such as # PTW2993 (if you don't already have one or a meter) and test the connector on your truck to see if it has power with the right turn signal on. If it does, then the issue is on the trailer. If it does not, then the issue is on your 2004 Chevy Suburban; likely a blown tow package fuse. In your Suburban the right trailer turn/brake light fuse is located in the in-cab panel labeled RT TRN ST/TRN.

If everything checks out on the vehicle side then the issue is on the trailer. Make sure the truck side and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion inside where the wires attach and outside on the pins.

It could also be a ground issue.Ground problems normally show up when there is more draw on a system such as when you have the running lights on and then use another function like a turn signal or brake light but can show up any time.

The light grounds should also be attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. If there is anything between a light ground and the metal trailer frame or if the trailer has an aluminum frame, tilt bed, or folding tongue, any of these things can interrupt the ground. Running jumper wires from the light grounds to the main trailer connector ground can help.
