What Parts are Needed to Flat Tow a 1999 Chevy S-10 Pickup Behind a Motorhome

Question:

How do you hook up to the tow bar? May I please see the instructions and illustrations for the bar. And what kind of tow bar works with this? What is the weight limit? Does it come with safety cables and all needed hardware? We have a 1999 Chevy S-10 2 wd pickup

To use the Roadmaster Standard Base Plate Kit, item # 161-2, on your 1999 Chevrolet S-10-Pickup you will also need a tow bar, quick disconnects, safety cables and towed vehicle wiring.

An excellent tow bar is the RoadMaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar - 6,000 lbs, item # RM-520, this tow bar mounts in the receiver hitch on your RV and connects to a set of base plates on the towed vehicle. The tow bar is slid into the RV hitch and attached with a hitch pin. Then, after attaching quick disconnects to the tow bar and the vehicle base plates, the tow bar is attached to the towed vehicle and safety cables are secured to the RV hitch and towed vehicle base plates.

Next you will need safety cables. The RoadMaster 68 inch Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000 lbs, item # RM-643, are coiled to keep the safety cables from dragging on the ground.

Finally, there are 3 options for wiring. If you will not be towing often the Magnetic Towing Light Kit, 20 ft. Long Cord, item # RM-2120, is an option. If you plan on towing more often you can use the RoadMaster Tail Light Wiring Kit with Bulbs, item # RM-155, which requires mounting a bulb in the red portion of the towed vehicle tail light housing or the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, item # RM-154, which uses the towed vehicle tail lights and requires diodes to be spliced into the wiring to prevent feed back onto the towed vehicles electrical system.

There is also the RoadMaster Towing Kit with Coiled Wiring, item # RM-9243-1 that has all of the items mentioned above except the quick disconnects and includes tow bar locks, bag and parts bag.

You may also want to consider a braking system to help safely stop when you are towing your S-10. I recommend the Stay-IN-DUO, SM99251, because it is easy to use each time you tow.

We have a few videos for you to review of the installations mentioned above (see links).
