Trailer Brake Controller and Wiring Recommendation for a 2008 Toyota Highlander  

Question:

I am searching for a brake controller for a 2008 Toyota Highlander without a factory tow package. My preference would be for the inertia type activation design. My typical tow is going to be under 4,000 lbs. Im looking for simplicity of installation, reliability and ease of use/set-up when attaching trailers of differing weights. I see there are lots to choose from and wonder if you might suggest the best low-cost model for my project.

For a proportional brake controller for your 2008 Toyota Highlander that is at a decent price that still is an excellent controller you would want the Curt TriFlex part # C24VV and install harness # C51515.

You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # C56217.

From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.
