Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier for a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with Curt Trailer Hitch

Question:

Dear Sirs Does Cargo Carrier C18145 fit the 2012 Sonata Hybrid? If I want to lift a little higher than 9 1/2inch off the ground, which adapter do you recommend. Do have a Curt 1 1/4inch hitch receiver!

Curt cargo carrier # C18145 will fit your 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with a Curt trailer hitch installed. But if you want it to be higher I do not recommend using an adapter because it will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent (from 200 to 100 pounds, minus the weight of the carrier). This means you would only be able to put 71 pounds on the carrier.

I recommend going with carrier # C18110 instead. It has a 3-3/4 inch rise in the shank for better ground clearance. this means you would not have to use an adapter. I have included a link to a video review of this carrier for you.

Curt also says you have to use stabilization strap # 18050 when using this hitch for any non-trailer load (such as a bike rack or cargo carrier) per their warranty requirements.
