Trailer Hitch for 2015 Audi Q5 For Carrying Dirt and Street Bike on Hitch Mounted Carrier
Question:
I see you have 3 different hitches youre currently recommending. I would like to know which one is best for hauling a 240lb dirt bike on a rack that suspends the entire bike behind the vehicle. So tongue weight would be about 325 lbs. I guess maybe I would occasionally like the option to haul a street bike which would put tongue weight at 450lbs. Also, the Q5 has the backup camera so I want to avoid any fascia cutting. Thanks.

Of the three hitches available for your Q5, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Hitch # 75940. The hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 750 lbs, so the weight of your dirt bike and the 50 lb weight of the bike carrier would come in well under the 750 lb tongue weight capacity of the hitch. You'll want to check your owner's manual to see if a maximum tongue weight capacity is mentioned. If the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle is lower than that of the hitch, you'll need to abide by the lower of the two ratings. Installlation of the hitch will NOT require fascia cutting.
Curt offers a similar option, part # C13136, but Curt's warranty requirements state that a stabilizing strap like part # 18050 must be used for all non-trailer loads. The strap isn't compatible with all vehicles, especially hatchbacks with spoilers at the top of the hatch like your Q5. Because of this, I wouldn't recommend the Curt hitch.
The Joe Hauler carrier has a 400 lbs capacity, which would be insufficient for your street bike, but you'll be able to carry the dirt bike with no problems.
