We offer several classes of 2-inch trailer hitch receiver for your 1997 Ford F-150 V6 and these vary in their tongue weight (TW) and gross towing weight (GTW) capacities.
Just click on the link provided to view our main page for F-150 hitches, then simply use the Select Vehicle Style drop-down menu at the top of the page to choose your bed style. All hitches include the required mounting hardware and I have linked an install video and article to help.
For instance, if you want the highest-rated hitch you can use # Curt # C15303 which is a Class V type rated for 1600-lbs of TW and a maximum towing capacity of 16,000-lbs (or 17,000 if used with a weight distribution system). This hitch fits with spare tire sizes up to 20-inches. The recommended ball mount is # C45341 and this can be locked with # e98881. You'll use a hitch ball with a 1-1/4-inch shank diameter, such as # BWHB94050.
For a lighter-duty Class III hitch rated for 600-lbs TW you can use Curt # 13355 along with ball mount # C45067 and either 2-inch ball # 40038 or 2-5/16-inch ball # C40007.
For a 7-way wiring harness for a tow-package-equipped truck use part # C55242 or if no tow package use # 18252.
