Replacement Mounting Hardware for Yakima ButtonDown 4 Ski Carrier

Question:

I have a Yakima Buttondown 4 ski carrier. Yakimas website indicates that mounting hardware for the Powerderhound Part No. 8830021 is compatible with the Buttondown. I dont see that part on your website, but I do see Y8860040 for the Powerderhound. Is Y8860040 compatible with the Yakima Buttondown 4? Will Y8860040 mount to a Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack with Euro Square Crossbars?

You will want to use the mounting hardware for your ButtonDown 4, part # 8830021, as you found on Yakima's site. The mounting hardware # 8830021 will fit square crossbars, like the Rhino-Rack Euro Square Bars # RREB126B.

According to my contact at Yakima, the Replacement Mounting Hardware # Y8860040 was not designed to fit with the ButtonDown 4. The screw at the top of the replacement hardware would come into contact with your ski carrier and cause issues for mounting.

Around 2006, Yakima changed the design of their mounting hardware. The replacement mounting hardware # Y8860040 will fit Yakima's ski carriers manufactured after 2006. Since the ButtonDown 4 was manufactured before 2006, you will want to use the # 8830021 for your carrier.
